osCommerce (for Open Source Commerce) is an e-commerce and online store-management software program. It can be used on any web server that has PHP and MySQL installed. It is available as free software under the GNU General Public License.

osCommerce is currently at release 2.2 (with 3.0 waiting in the wings). By itself 2.2 is a stable release but there are a plethora of modifications (aka contributions) that can be added to improve the basic platform. Many of these contributions are quite complicated to install and can, at times, cause all - or part - of the online shop to crash.
